Team:
– Atelier Ferret Architectures (design consulting architect)
– KUROKAWA (architect)
– MITSUSAKI (TCE engineering firm)
– TAKENAKA CORP (lead contractor)

The stadium, nicknamed “Big Eye,” is located in a 300-hectare sports park on the Kyushu Peninsula in Japan. This stadium hosted several matches during the 2002 FIFA World Cup, including those with Tunisia, Mexico, Belgium, and Italy.
The retractable roof is made of a translucent membrane (PTFE), allowing ample light to penetrate.

The stadium includes 55,000 covered and seated places, with a movable roof above the playing field for event configurations, 45,000 seats in football configuration, and 40,000 seats in athletics configuration. The movable roof covers both the playing field and the athletics track. Additionally, there is a 10,000-seat arena and multi-sport training rooms nearby.
