The departure of firefighters from the benauge fire station

Project content

A page is turned, after 70 years of good and loyal services, the building is about to be transformed.

“It’s a mixture of emotions, the excitement of moving into new premises that are a little more adapted to today’s needs. And then a little sadness at leaving this fire station where we have lived through hundreds, thousands of anecdotes. The most important thing to remember about this fire station is that it was open to the Bastide district. People used to come and shelter in the depots when it rained. There were all these festivities organized with the population – the July 14th balls, the guinguettes we organized this year. Whole families have lived here. We even have an agent who was born and raised here and is now a firefighter here.” Christophe Debons (former center chief at La Benauge and now at the helm of La Bastide) tells France Bleu Gironde.

The new firefighters’ home is the new main rescue center for Bordeaux-Bastide, located at 56 rue de la Garonne in the new Belvédère district, still on the right bank, but near the Saint-Jean bridge.
