INAUGURATION OF THE PAMM: METROPOLITAN MARTIAL ARTS CENTER OF LORMONT
Published on October 13, 2025
On October 11, 2025, the Metropolitan Martial Arts Center of Lormont was inaugurated in the presence of numerous dignitaries, including Olympic champion Teddy Riner. Commissioned by Bordeaux Métropole and the City of Lormont, this new facility dedicated to martial arts and combat sports embodies the ambition to provide an exceptional venue for training, competition, and community gathering.
Designed and completed in two phases by Atelier Ferret Architectures, the project continues a vision initiated back in 2002 :
– Phase 1 (2002) : construction of a 1,000-seat sports hall specifically dedicated to combat sports, featuring six tatamis, a wrestling hall, a boxing hall, a fitness and warm-up area, as well as administrative offices, reception spaces, and changing rooms.
– Phase 2 (2025) : extension and reconfiguration of the main sports platform, increasing the capacity to 3,000 seats with a retractable and removable grandstand. The main arena has become a versatile space, capable of hosting both combat disciplines (judo, karate, boxing, aikido, wrestling, etc.) and team or artistic sports (handball, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, parasports, etc.). The complex has also undergone significant renovation and expansion: the wrestling hall has been refreshed, the boxing hall enlarged, and new weight training and reception rooms have been created, while the changing rooms, offices, and entrance hall have been fully refurbished offering athletes and the public a modern, complete, and flexible facility.
Versatility and adaptability lie at the heart of the project: the rapid transformation of the main arena, enabled by retractable systems, allows for maximum functional efficiency and opens the building to a wide range of multidisciplinary sporting events.
This new facility embodies the agency’s vision: a high-performance, adaptable, and welcoming architecture, serving the metropolitan influence and sporting vitality of the region.
