Restaurant for the National rugby center
The extension of this restaurant has been realized in a short span of time. Construction lasted only about nine months and took place with the CNR remaining operational as the restaurant was the only eating area of the whole centre.
The objective here was to create a volume in which both the existing part and the extension would morph in an entity. This had to be done while creating a whole new structure as the existing one could no longer be used to support the extension. A bridge like structure with a wooden openwork skin delicately binds the existing part and the floor of the new restaurant.
One of the remnants of the park, the existing ‘pigeonnier’, now welcomes the lounge and dining area of the president of the federation. Contrast is brought by treating the exterior of the volume in a rustic manner with slate and stone as opposed to the minimalist contemporary interior.
A mobile plateau used to elevate guests from the living room to the dining room is also part of the 'pigeonnier’ Contemporary design furniture has been used to adorn both of these spaces ‘’swan ‘’ armchair by Arne Jacobsen for the living room, and ‘’ghost’’ armchairs by Philippe Starck for the dining area and ‘’coffee table’’ centerpiece by Noguchi.
